Impact of Using Natural Gas for Enhanced Oil Recovery on Sale of Alaska North Slope Gas

Natural Resource Fund, Office of Arctic Research · Sep 30, 1997

The recoverable conventional natural gas reserves found on the Alaska North Slope [ANS] total about 32 trillion cubic feet [tcf]. An additional 14.6 tcf of gas are estimated to be in the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska [NPRA]; with some 31.3 tcf estimated in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge [ANWR]. No significant commercialization of this large resources has been made because there are no existing facilities in place to economically transport this gas to market. About 26 tcf [approx 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent, BOE] of the recoverable gas are found in Prudhoe Bay alone. In this study, we examine the optimal utilization of this valuable ANS resource.
